A Beginning

Welcome to Current Ecology.

We’re glad you’re here.

This blog is dedicated to addressing the (man-made) dichotomy between humans and nature; while western culture has a long history of viewing the environment as a thing to be conquered, the spectrum of this relationship across the world is broad. What you may not know is that our cultural upbringing shapes this relationship and has lingering impacts that extend out like mycorrhizal fungi, wrapping around our understandings of the world and fueling our perspectives- and sometimes our conflicts.

This is the stuff they don’t teach you in school.

At Current Ecology, we aim to tell relevant stories about the ways local environments are changing and communities are adapting. Climate change is already affecting how we interface with the world around us-- from raising crops for agriculture to preserving sites of global human heritage, like the Colosseum. Sometimes, these stories will be uplifting, other times, they will be challenging; all will help us understand our world in the broader context of conservation, where humans and the environment meet.

We hope you stick around and learn some of the science behind how we got here…… and more importantly, we hope you will acquire some new tools that can help you to make better choices as you navigate an increasingly complex world.
